Train-the-Trainer Workshops
Please contact us if you are interested in future workshops
LEAPE staff will be conducting 1½ -day workshops to train local educators in the use of LEAPE materials. The audience for these workshops may include Cooperative Extension agents, soil and water conservation district officials, county planning and health officials, watershed stewards, and other professionals interested in educating local government officials on nonpoint source pollution control using the LEAPE materials.
Instruction will cover
Please note that we will be holding the ArcView/ArcExplorer session on the first afternoon for participants with little or no GIS experience or wishing to refresh their knowledge. Participants with GIS experience may want to attend only the second, full day session.

The purpose of the train-the-trainer workshops is to multiply our ability to reach local government officials with education on nonpoint source pollution control. Therefore, prior to the workshop, participants should identify a target community in which to begin using LEAPE and issues significant to that community. The issues to be addressed should be related to one of the LEAPE topics (currently, marina management, turf management, streamside protection, local roads management, on-site wastewater treatment systems, and stormwater management). Participants will have the opportunity to describe their target community and issues and seek input from other participants.
At each workshop, you will hear about the experience of the Cayuga Lake Watershed Network as they have used LEAPE with town and village governments in Tompkins County.
Team approach:
A team approach to delivering LEAPE allows educators to pool their expertise, provide better instruction and individual attention during local workshops, and introduce participating communities to a network of local experts as they begin to implement some of the ideas contained in LEAPE. We encourage participants to identify local partners who will help deliver LEAPE, and to attend the train-the-trainer workshop with at least one local partner. Partner organizations might include Cornell Cooperative Extension, soil and water conservation districts, county planning departments, county health departments, and environmental management councils. Local partners will be paired during the workshop, allowing them to begin preparation for local educational sessions.
Workshops will run from approximately 1 – 5:30 pm on the first day and 9 am – 5:30 pm on the second day.

Please note registration deadlines. Workshops will be limited to 16 participants each. We will maintain waiting lists for each workshop if necessary. In general, spaces will be reserved in the order registration forms are received. If space is limited, we may limit a particular group to two participants, and we may give preference to participants registered as a pair, as described above. (Each partner needs to register with a form and should indicate the other partner on the registration form; you may wish to submit forms together.)
The $45 registration fee (or $35 for second day only) covers
lunch and refreshments, LEAPE software, and printed manuals and teaching
materials. We will send you a confirmation note by email or postal mail to let
you know you have been registered. If you must cancel, please notify us as early
as possible so that we can contact people on the waiting list who might be able
to attend. Your registration fee will be refunded if you cancel by the dates
indicated on the registration form.
Continuing Education Credits will be arranged through the Cornell University School of Continuing Education. These credits are optional and have a nominal fee (not included in the registration fee). A form to submit for the credits will be given to all workshop participants.
