      Undergraduate student research and possibly employment positions are available for the 2008-09 academic year to perform or assist in field and laboratory work focusing on the biology/ecology and sustainable management of weedy species in both agricultural and natural systems.

      Students will learn or enhance their weed identification skills, be involved in field and laboratory trial data collection, data entry and presentation.

Current projects in our Weed Ecology Lab focus on the:

Weed biology of the invasive plants, pale swallow-wort and black swallow-wort, in natural systems of the Lower Great Lakes Basin and Hudson Valley;

Impact of mycorrhizal fungi on plant invasiveness

Weed seed biology and weed population dynamics;

Effect of Bt-corn systems on weed seed predation by carabid beetles

We are seeking undergraduate students that are highly motivated, responsible and have an interest in basic and applied plant/weed ecology research.
There are ample opportunities to carry out independent undergraduate research projects.

Work-study students are especially encouraged to apply for employment positions.
