Dr. Jianying Shen joined Professor DiTommaso's Weed Ecology & Management Research Group as a Visiting Scholar from the Department of Resources and Environmental Sciences, Shanghai Jiaotong University where she has been an Associate Professor in Weed Science since 1997. Professor Shen's research interests are in the areas of weed biology/ecology, biological weed control, and integrated management. She is also very much interested in the development of new approaches and methodologies for the teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses in weed science, plant quarantine, identification and development of beneficial weedy species (e.g. for medicinal purposes), bioremediation of environmental pollutants, and integrated pest management. She is an Expert Member of the Shanghai Science Committee and Shanghai Hazard Evaluation Committee, and has held the post of Director of the Shanghai Institute of Plant Protection since 2002. Dr. Shen has received several awards for outstanding teaching and research.
