The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Program at the Cornell Institute for Resource Information Sciences (IRIS) provides a shared computing resource for the Cornell community. This facility, part of the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences, was established by and is supported through external research grants and direct college support from Cornell University.

The objective of the GIS Program is to support the environmental data and information needs of the public and private sector both domestically and internationally. The GIS Program meets these objectives through research and outreach programs. The audience includes Cornell faculty, students and staff, government agencies at all levels, other academic institutions, and private companies.

The GIS program is engaged in all aspects of modern geographical data handling. We concentrate on methods of spatial analysis, statistics, cartography and GIS, and their applications to social sciences, human geography, economics, environmental sciences, photogrammetric engineering and remote sensing.

The laboratory has state-of-the-art facilities, and is located in 301 Rice Hall. Normal office hours are from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday. For further information about the GIS Program, contact:
