Even on ideal alfalfa sites, it is recommended to sow alfalfa with a perennial grass. Alfalfa-grass mixtures provide high yields, increase the chances of successful establishment, have a lower incidence of bloat, and are at least as good as pure alfalfa as a dairy forage.
