If possible, use species with rhizomes, for they tend to spread and fill in bare spots. Seeding rates in pounds per acre can be converted to pounds per 1,000 square feet by multiplying pounds per acre by the factor 0.023. For example, 15 pounds of seed per acre x 0.023 = 0.34 pound of seed per 1,000 square feet.
