Alfalfa Snout Beetle

Severe damage to alfalfa roots by larvae will kill the plants outright, or result in winter kill of plants. The ASB larvae are about 1/2 inch long, when fully grown, and can be found within a foot of the soil surface in mid to late summer, feeding on alfalfa roots. (Photos courtesy of Dr. Elson Shields)
