My
research
addresses
the
relationship
between
local
markets
for
botanical
resources
and
environmental
change
through
a
case
study
in
the
eastern
highlands
of
Madagascar.
By
means
of
medicinal
plant
market
surveys,
interviews
with
plant
traders
and
ecological
inventories
of
primary
and
secondary
vegetation,
I
investigate
the
question
of
whether
economic
medicinal
plants
in
Madagascar
are
concentrated
in
undisturbed
or
disturbed
habitat.
I
also
consider
the
motivations
for
habitat
preference
among
medicinal
plant
collectors.
