Thesis Project : Investigation of scale-dependence using fractal geometry.

The focus of my research concerns proper measurement and characterization of seemingly fractal and multifractal objects, e.g. remotely sensed images of canopy cover. I am also concerned with issues of scale-dependence: What is the appropriate scale at which to take measures? What transformation takes place as a system is scaled up. The goal is to find mathematically objective indicators of the health of a system.
