Thesis Project : The effect of earthworms on nutrient status in agroforestry systems of the Brazilian Amazon.

Christy is studying the effects of earthworms (Family Glossoscolecidae) on nutrients in agroforestry systems of the Central Brazilian Amazon. She has focused on phosphorus, a limiting element in agricultural systems throughout the tropics, and has used a modified Hedley sequential P extraction. Her results show the importance of earthworms in maintaining efficient nutrient cycling in these systems.
