Performance and Management
For
alley cropping to be
a meaningful alternative
to unsustainable slash
and burn agriculture,
it has to be accepted
by farmers and extend
itself from trial plots
into farmer's fields
and newly cleared crop
lands. Adoption by farmers
depends on a number
of factors, e.g. ease
of establishment, labor
intensities, and multiple
utilization of hedgerows,
but the foremost determinant
in farmers' decision
is crop yield.
