The ASB Program: A Proposal for Phase III
(1999-2002)

Profitable, Resilient, and Environmentally Sound Agroecosystems
At the Tropical Forest Margins

Summary | Rationale for ASB Phase 3 | Objectives of ASB Phase 3

Proposed activities for Phase 3:

Funding Needs

Funding Needs

To implement the above five activities in Cameroon, Brazil, Indonesia, Thailand and Peru, the eleven lead institutions (ICRAF, CIAT, CIFOR, IFPRI, IRAD, IITA, EMBRAPA, INIA, AARD, MOAC-Thailand, and TSBF) estimate that the following budget is required. This budget is intended as a complement to the various sums raised by consortium members in their individual capacity, as was the case during Phases I and II of the programme.

In the event of a shortfall in consortium funding at this point in the ASB programme, we foresee the following serious consequences:

  1. As these funds are crucial to the synthesis of the different disciplinary and country results, a lack of funds will result in the research losing its coherence and the consortium will be severely weakened.
  2. The NARS partners are dependent upon these funds for their operations and field research. They will be most affected by the shortfall, and this is a particularly inopportune moment, as they are just gaining credibility on ASB issues with their governments and other researchers.
