Establishment of multidisciplinary teams

Benchmark sites | Establishment of multidisciplinary teams | Development of standard methods, procedures and protocols | Scientists trained in ASB research methods | Outputs and achievements

At each benchmark site, researchers and development specialists from local, national and international institutes were invited to form multidisciplinary teams. A key objective of the team-building process was the to maintain a broad disciplinary and institutional representation. For example, in Indonesia, local universities and a regional environmental institute (BIOTROP) played a key leadership role in field activities. In Brazil, EMBRAPA hired an additional 22 national scientists, including social scientists, economists, foresters, and agronomists to facilitate the formation of a broad-based multidisciplinary national team. In both Cameroon and Indonesia, peer review systems were set up to allocate GEF funds to research activities.
