Two species involved in the evolution of modern bananas: Musa acuminata (A) and M. balbisiana (B).
The A genome tends to produce the sweet table banana; the B genome the dry cooking banana.
Natural hybrids: AB, AAB, ABB, AAA, AAB, and AABB.
