A detailed examination of the structure and surface chemistry of colloidal particles common to soils.
Ion exchange, mineral-solution equilibria and adsorption reactions of silicate clays, oxides and organic
matter will be emphasized. The behavior of environmental contaminants in soils, particularly metals and
toxic organics, will be described.
